Articles of Organization

35
To form an LLC in Montana, you must file Articles of Organization with the Secretary of State. The filing fee is $35, and the process must be completed online through the state's business portal. You will need to provide your business name, registered agent information, and the names and addresses of your members or managers.

After formation, Montana requires LLCs to file an annual report each year between January 1 and April 15 to remain in good standing. While the standard filing fee is $20, the state has waived this fee for reports filed by the April 15 deadline in recent years, including 2024 and 2025. Reports filed after the deadline incur a $15 late fee. All annual reports must be submitted electronically through the Secretary of State’s online portal.
